For the quality of teaching and studies the teachers' competence is crucial. Assuming that teaching may be learned it becomes more and more important to assess and expand the didactic competences of lecturers. For University educationalists and researches this report provides an overview of new research approaches relating to University didactics as well as support with the conception of University didactic provisions. A joint project of the Universities Dortmund, Freiburg and Hamburg researched the development of teaching competences. To this end the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) initiated the programme "Zukunftswerkstatt Hochschullehre" (future workshop higher education teaching) in 2008. The result of this analysis is now available as a white paper.
