This collected edition deals with the regional employment relevance of the health economy. Starting with some theoretical considerations about the characteristic features of the health care market and the regional concentration of health care activities, employment in the health care sector is examined using a layer model that differentiates between health services, retail services and the health industry in the German Federal States and districts. Structural aspects in relation to employees, changes in employment contracts and wages are investigated. Reports on health employment for selected Federal States are presented, namely Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hessen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin, Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Saxony. The final article focuses on the quality of working conditions in the care sector and makes suggestions of how to achieve better working conditions in this sector.
