1 Treatment strategy

Light normal diet.

The fluid requirement is about 3 liters per day.

As a guideline for a sufficient intake a urine quantity of at least 1 liter per day applies.

A salt intake of 6-9 g per day is recommended.

Salted meat and vegetable broths help to force the liquid intake.

The recommended dietary fiber content is less than 30 g per day, and a low-fiber diet with less than 20 g

per day is required depending on the situation.

Stoma-irritating foods as well as fiber-rich foods are to be avoided in order to prevent skin irritations on the stoma or its blockage.

Support is also provided by a diary or "complaints protocol".
