There are no universal rules or guidelines to help us deal with the death of those we love, just as there are no guarantees that we will live a long and fruitful life ourselves. Death comes when it will, and those of us left behind cope as best we can. Allan Drummond describes himself as a mess when Jude, his wife of forty-three years, died. Tired of rattling around in an empty house, Allan decided to set out on a long drive through parts of Australia, meeting people, yarning with them, discovering that many of them had experienced their own share of grieving.
