Opis

With refugees and migrants coming to America, seeking the American Dream, most of them are facing the tough struggle and utter disillusionment. Apart from the issues of poverty and population explosion, the country is infested with the curse of racism and sectarianism. Moreover, the relentlessly increasing Muslim people, both natives and foreign descendants have been accused of posing threats to the country. Why Do You Want To Come To America, examines many of the reasons that people want to enter America. Refuge, education, marriage, money, and freedom are among the most popular, but is this really enough, or is it simply a thin veneer that quickly loses its gloss? With new and stringent immigration policies, travel bans, deportations, visa revocations and racial profiling being applied aggressively towards Muslims, Hispanics and people of foreign descent, the fundamental question in all of this should be; Is the promise of wealth and freedom worth the cost of losing your culture and belief?

Preface

The time has come that the question is asked of those who are migrating and risk losing their culture and identity. Why do you want to come to America? The question is meant for self-reflection and self-scrutiny. As we embark into the next Gregorian calendar year of 2017 with high and low hopes depending on the individual, there will be some drastic changes as a result of new governmental procedures implemented and new incoming heads and chiefs who have shown a hand that will be sternly against immigration. That's not the intention behind this essay. Many have come to America with nothing to show for it. No savings, no development, and minimal employment. Prior to arrival, they were shown flashes of pomp, glare, stardom, and a society of a free society on TV and movies. The lookers envisioned that it is a must that they embark on the journey to America to satisfy their worldly desires and dreams. "I want to go to America", is a common statement uttered from the mouths of those who live in non-Western civilized societies and has been taught to their children to repeat as well. Their fathers sit in coffee shops and restaurants glorifying how great America and European countries are, even sometimes greater than their own birthplaces. Their mothers are at home watching cable TV mesmerized by the life that appears to be one of security, freedom, glamor and lavishness. The kids are in school being taught that Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, iPhone, and Batman are your new icons of life.

My journey across the world has given me access to hear and witness some of the most amazing tales of how people who never traveled to America are drunk with a passion for living there. Very few haven't answered its call. Most regardless of what they continue to hear from the negativity and violence by the way of the news and word of mouth will continue to desire in their hearts to be an American somehow, some way and some day. Movies such as Coming to America, The Visitor and In America have highlighted some of these same notions that are instilled in foreigners seeking something deeply rooted inside their souls that is in America. "America offers us freedom and a chance to live" is a common belief of many living outside of it. For some that may be true being that if you are from a civilization similar to America, let's say i.e. Colombia, then, of course, you will be familiar with the system of democracy and its way of life. The point is that your decision to come to America is a binding decision on yourself, family and generations to come. I will discuss a few main points on why people will choose to migrate to America and let you decide whether or not, the trip is worth it.
