CHAPTER 1: POVERTY IN THE LAND

A YOUNG MAN NAMED EYERE left his home town in Bayelsa to the city of Lagos for the sake of husting. He stopped at level 5 in high school. His parents could not afford to meet up with his school needs. In the family of seven Eyere was the fourth and third male child. He left home for the city after the situation at hand was unbearable and clear. He had an aunty whom resides in Lagos with her very own family. So, he entangled himself to the city of Lagos. Aunty Iyabefa and her husband her very famous and generous for their good sense of humor. They had a son whose name was Tombary, about five-years old whom was called to the living room to welcome his cousin.

Iyabefa and her husband are average earners, they are both into petty business and teaching as a profession. They lived to the comfort of their abundance, Iyabefa gave him orientation about Lagos life, she tells him to make good friends and insisted that lateness outside is not tolerated, it was because of their environment at Ipaja. Eyere obscure the advice because he was very hungry at the moment. His in-law offered him opportunity to further school but he chooses to go into trade at fifteen. He thinks it was the best idea for children to grow. Also it undermines the change in the environment. School was seen as sheer waste of time for the common men because whosoever they read in colleges will still make them look for jobs of minimum wages if they would found at all. Eyere greeted Pale and Maale off before he joined the truck that took him to his destination.
