Chapter 1: Meeting Michelle

“Baby, I’m on the train. I’ll talk to you later, alright? Love you, bye.”

I hung up the phone and sighed in frustration. My boyfriend Jeremy had just skipped out on our dinner date tonight—which was for my freaking birthday may I add—so that he could go and play basketball with his friends. Now it was a Friday night and my birthday besides, and I had absolutely nothing to do.

I decided to call up the restaurant to cancel the reservation. Just as the phone was ringing, a pretty young woman about my age took a seat next to me. She had long, blonde hair, thick lips with pink lipstick, and big, dark eyes that carried this intensity in them. She was dressed in a black leather jacket and tight jeans, and she was absolutely gorgeous… but of course I tried not to just stare at her. After all, I wasn’t some kind of lesbian.

I smiled politely at her, and she smiled back at me. Actually, it was more this kind of cocky grin. I blushed, then looked away when the restaurant answered.

“Hi, thank you for calling Isidora. How may I assist you?” asked the person on the other end.

“Hi, I’m calling about an eight o'clock reservation I have later tonight? My name is Jessica Howard.”

“Yes, Ms. Howard? How may I assist you?”

“I, um… have to cancel my reservation, unfortunately.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. I’ll cancel your reservation right away.”

“Great, thank you.”

As I hung up the phone, I noticed the pretty girl next to me was looking at me.

“May I help you?” I asked, a little taken aback by her boldness.

“You’re canceling a reservation at Isidora?” she asked, chuckling. “Do you know how long it takes to get a reservation there?”

“Yes, I’m very aware,” I sighed.

“Then what’s the deal?”

“What do you care?”

She shrugged. “Just curious.”

“Well, I don’t feel like talking about it, thanks.”

I turned back forward, crossing my arms. But… to be honest, I did kind of want to talk about it. After all, Jeremy had just ditched me on my birthday so he could play basketball with his friends, who he was always playing basketball with. Even if this pretty girl did seem rude, she seemed interested in me at least….

And, admittedly, I did think she was kind of hot. That always helps.

“Okay, fine,” I huffed. “I’ll tell you what’s wrong.”

“Well, now I don’t wanna know,” shrugged the girl.

I scoffed and looked at her. “What’s your problem?” I growled.

“Just kidding,” she grinned.

“Oh my God,” I sighed, shaking my head. “Please don’t do this to me tonight. I’m very upset and could just use someone to vent to.”

Her cocky grin faded into concern. She raised an eyebrow, paused, then finally asked, in a softer voice, “So what happened?”

I groaned and let my head rest in my hands. “Just… my stupid boyfriend.”

“Boys are often stupid.” She shrugged.

“Yeah, well, how about stupid and neglectful? We were supposed to go out for my birthday—you know, to Isidora—and he cancels on me so he can play freaking basketball with his friends!”

“Wow. Okay, yeah, that’s pretty bad.”

“Right? And, like, I’ve been looking forward to this stupid birthday dinner and to just having some time with him because I’ve been so busy at the office, but it’s like he’d rather go see his bros than spend quality time with me.”

She frowned. “I’m sorry.”

“It’s fine,” I sighed. “It’s not your fault.”

“Still, that’s totally shitty of him. It’s your birthday—Happy Birthday, by the way—and you should do something nice for yourself.”

“Yeah, but what? I’m not going to dinner alone. Lamest birthday ever….”

The girl shrugged. “I mean, I could go with you.”

“What?” I laughed. “Like, a date with a total stranger?”

“Not a date. Just… you know, a way to spend your birthday with someone else so you’re not sitting at home eating chips ’n’ salsa and watching Netflix.”

I paused. “… Astute.”

“I know ‘em when I see ‘em.” She grinned.

“Well, I guess I can call Isidora and try to get them to, um, un-cancel my reservation….” I paused and looked her up and down, then asked, “I suppose I can pay for you too.”

“No need. I’m paying for you.”

I giggled. “No way. I am not going to let you pay for me. I don’t even know your name!”

“Michelle,” she smiled, extending her hand. “Nice to meet you.”

I looked at her hand, cautiously took it, then replied, “Jessica… nice to meet you.”

Despite her rough, sort of boyish attitude, her hand was exceptionally soft and… nice to touch, I guess. I felt kind of weird for feeling the way I did, but there was something strangely charming about her. You ever meet someone and they’re just, well… fascinating? I guess Michelle was that, to me.

Not to mention pretty much drop-dead gorgeous.

“I’m still not gonna let you pay,” I said.

“I can afford it. Trust me.”

“I can afford it. Trust me,” I laughed.

Michelle chuckled. “I’m sure you can, but it’s your birthday, and you deserve to be treated.”

“You’re even nicer than my boyfriend,” I sighed; then, teasingly, “Though you’re still kind of a jerk.”

“I take exception to that.”

“Really?” I blinked, unsure if I had actually offended her or not.

“No, I do.” She grinned. “Better a jerk than a bitch, right?”

“I suppose so,” I giggled. “I, uh, better call the restaurant.”

“Good, because looks like it’s our next stop,” said Michelle, nodding toward the window. I could see the approaching station, as well as the restaurant only a couple of blocks away.

I looked out the window, then back at Michelle and smiled. She smiled back.

God, her smile was amazing.

Chapter 2: Michelle’s Little Secret

I was lucky enough to be able to un-cancel my reservation at Isidora, and soon enough Michelle and I were seated at a cozy little booth in the corner of the restaurant. Our waiter had brought us a bottle of red wine, courtesy of Michelle, and we were both enjoying a glass while we waited for our order to come.

“So, uh, tell me about yourself,” I said, taking a sip of my wine.

“That’s the worst question in the world,” groaned Michelle. “C’mon, something more specific.”

“Okay, okay. What do you do for work?”

“Boring. Next one.”

I scoffed. “If you find all my questions boring, you think of one.”

“Okay, fine—are you happy in your relationship?”

I raised my eyebrow. “That’s… a little personal, isn’t it?”

“It’s a legitimate question.”

“Sure, but you kind of just went for it.”

I could tell that Michelle was interested in me, even back on the train. Just the way she looked at me or smiled at me, even when she was being cocky or teasing me. It was… well, it was the way that men usually look at me.

And, truth be told, though it made me a little uncomfortable, it was also kind of nice. After all, she was attractive, and Jeremy wasn’t very good at giving me this kind of attention….

“Fine. I guess I’m not the happiest person, but who is?” I sighed.

“No one, but does your relationship contribute to that unhappiness?”

“I don’t know.” I stared into my wine glass as I contemplated her question; then, after a moment’s thought, “I guess so.”

We sat there quietly for a moment, my eyes directed into my wine glass as I thought about Jeremy and myself, Michelle just staring at me. Finally, I lifted my eyes to hers and asked, “Why do you care?”

“I dunno. I don’t like seeing pretty girls unhappy.”

“Um, are you….” I paused and thought about how I should phrase this, but couldn’t figure out how to.

“Am I what? A lesbian?”

I blinked at her. “Well, yes, actually.”

Michelle grinned. “Why do you wanna know?”I blushed and looked away. “Just… wondering.”

“Sure, but we wonder these things for a reason.”

“You make it sound so bad.”

“Am I? Or are you just afraid that being attracted to girls is bad?”

I looked at her, eyes wide, then looked away. “I don’t know,” I mumbled.

Michelle leaned back in her seat and sipped down all her wine in one gulp. “Well,” she said, pouring herself another glass, “I think you’re confused.”

“Am I? Do I seem confused?”

“Yeah, like you don’t know what to do with me.”

I shrugged and sighed, “Well, I don’t know. You pay attention to me, and you… seem kind of interesting.”

“I am interesting.”

“And you’re cocky,” I laughed; then, biting my lip, “But it’s kind of cute to meet a girl like you. So pretty, but so….”

“What? Manly?”

“Er, no, not manly, but….”

“Like a dyke?” Michelle grinned.

I blushed and giggled. “No! Just… you’re so aggressive.”

She shrugged. “Yeah, I’ve kind of been this way for a long time, you know?”

“I’ve just never met a girl like you.”

“Oh, believe me, I know you haven’t….”

“What is that supposed to imply?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“I mean, I’m sure you’ve met other lesbians, but… I’m different,” said Michelle, with the first sign of embarrassment I had seen from her.

“Huh? Different? How?”

“I, uh… well… I have a little extra down there.”

I blinked. “I don’t see what you mean.”

Michelle rolled her eyes, then said to me straight, “I have a dick, Jessica.”

My cheeks went red, and I wasn’t really sure if I heard her right. How could a girl have a dick? I suppose if she was trans, but….

“And no, I’m not trans,” added Michelle. “I was born a woman.”

“Surgery?” I wondered aloud, scratching my chin.

“No.”

“Then how?”

“I’ve always been curious about the other side… not in terms of being straight, but in terms of how it would be to fuck a girl with a penis,” said Michelle.

“So… you just wished yourself a dick?”

She chuckled. “No, not exactly,” she said, shrugging. “I mean, I don’t think you’ll believe it, even.”

“Try me.”

“Well… it all started with my posts about it on this online forum. I guess a few other lesbians had been wanting similar, uh, things too, so it was pretty nice to have a place to talk about it.
