“Are you Javier?”
“Jennifer?” he asked, moving over on the bench to make room for her. Madison Square Park was full of tourists and office workers on their lunch break, which of course made it perfect for their meeting.
“People call me Jenny,” she said, sitting down. “Although I suppose I should have come up with a fake name. Something more exciting.”
“I’ll call you whatever you like,” he said grinning at her. She had seen the pictures, but what can you tell from a photo? Even a good one hides more lies than it shows, but thankfully he was even more handsome than she had hoped.
“I can’t think of anything,” she said, a hint of laughter caught in her throat. “If something comes to mind I’ll tell you later.”
“Absolutely, we have all day.”
“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” she said, crossing her feet in front of her. She had been practical when she dressed that morning, and her short sundress only came down to mid-thigh; it was perfect for a hot summer day. Jenny had considered leaving her cotton panties behind in the hotel room, but she wasn’t sure she could do it. Oh, she was excited for the day, and now that she met her tour guide she was even flushed a little, but there was something about feeling the wind on her privates that made her squirm. Particularly in a dirty city like New York.
“Well, there’s no hurry at all today. And like I said in the email, everything is up to you. You can stop, change your mind, or ask for something else all day long until the tour is over. Even if you want to visit other sites. Hell, if you just want to get margaritas and watch boats on the Hudson we can do that too. There’s no pressure.”
“Well, aren’t you sweet. I wish dates were always this nice.”
“You’re sweet too,” he said, blushing a slight red. “And beautiful. You’re much prettier than in your pictures. I mean, the pictures were lovely…”
“It’s okay; you are too. I mean, you looked handsome, I wouldn’t have picked you otherwise, but much better in real life. Like really good looking.”
“You’re going to embarrass me before we even start!” he said, turning to face her. His smile was big and contagious, and for a moment they simply sat on the bench and stared at each other wondering what the day was to hold.
“Is this our first stop?” she asked, blushing instantly as she said it.
“This is Madison Square Park,” he said, waving a hand in front of him. “That’s Shake Shack over there, and the fountain is on the far side. The Credit Suisse Building is right there and…”
“What do we do here?” she asked, cutting him off. She did like site seeing, and she was fascinated by New York, but that wasn’t why she had hired him. This day was supposed to be something special. Something other than just pretty flowers and buildings. This day was a distraction, a break, and a release. Jenny needed it more than she cared to admit.
“There’s not a lot of privacy,” he said, moving slightly closer to her before taking her hand in his. “But if you like, we can find a spot on the grass. I have a light blanket so we can lie down for a bit.”
“Just lie there?” she asked, wondering if she was too direct. Damn, this was complicated.
“Let’s start with that,” he said, winking at her before he jumped up and pulled her to him. She almost tripped as he pulled her into his arms, lifting her gently off the ground before setting her down in front of him. He brushed her hair away from her eyes as he looked down, his hand gently settling on her cheek. And then, without any warning at all, he leaned in and kissed her lips, leaving a hint of coffee and cinnamon on her breath. The kiss lasted just a few seconds, but it was enough to taste him, enough to send shivers down her spine, and enough to make her want more.
“This way,” he said, taking one hand and pulling her along to the grassy lawn. Together they stepped over the small fence, found a shady area beneath a tree, and laid out the light blanket. He sat down after he kicked off his shoes, and a moment later they were next to each on their backs, staring up at the full leaves of the giant oak and the tops of the buildings surrounding the park. He slid one hand over her stomach and kissed her cheek. She rolled to him and stared into his eyes.
“I still can’t believe I’m doing this,” she whispered.
“I still can’t believe how beautiful you are,” he said, kissing her nose.
“We can really do whatever I want?”
“Of course. Isn’t that how it should always be? You should always get what you want.”
“Now you’re just buttering me up,” she said, kissing his mouth for just a second as if testing the waters before diving in.
“But it’s true. Today at least, we can do whatever you like.”
“You’ll do anything?” she asked, suddenly feeling her breath grow tighter and shorter. She understood the theory, but now, on the blanket in the park, with the handsome man in front of her, she almost didn’t believe it. The fact that it had been so long since she had gotten so much as a kiss just made it more exciting. And terrifying.
“Anything,” he whispered, his hand moving down her body until it found a bare thigh. “Anything at all.”
“Kiss me again. This time for real,” she said, enjoying her new power and freedom. He didn’t say a word before pulling her closer and tasting her mouth again. This time his hand pushed through her hair, settling on her cheek as they kissed, their tongues teasing one another for long minutes. Jenny felt her whole body tighten at his touch, and she struggled not to simply climb on top of him right there and then.
“God, you’re good at that,” she said when she finally pulled back.
“So are you,” he said. “I feel like kissing is always something two people do. It’s not about either one of us at all, but rather both of us together.”
“Such a romantic,” she said, taking his hand in hers and moving it higher up her thigh beneath her dress. “I might not be as sweet at you think I am.”
“I might not be either,” he said, feeling her legs part ever so slightly. When his fingers grazed the white cotton beneath her dress, he didn’t stop, and she let out a slight moan at his touch. He pressed against her more firmly, making out her contours beneath the fabric before touching her with greater force, pushing his strong fingers against the wet skin beneath.
“That’s better,” she said, kissing him again. “But I’m going to want so much more.”
