Kim looked at the immigration card in her hand and said a silent prayer, it was all that stood between her past and a new life in Europe. The future certainly wasn't certain, but with a small shudder she knew what lay ahead couldn't possibly be as tough as the life she had left behind in Cambodia.
“Everything has been arranged!” the agency had told her, “Work Permit, Residents Card, Accommodation… everything!”
She wanted to believe but still her doubts lingered, it was all just too perfect.
The line of passengers shuffled closer to a row of glass fronted booths containing stern looking officers in green uniforms, her hands had begun to sweat with the nervous tension, her papers had to be in order, she couldn't face being turned around and sent home on a technicality. The man who had joined her flight in Madrid stepped forward to a vacant window and presented his passport, Kim looked around and swallowed hard, it was her turn next.
